Road safety Assembly

Harry and Jordan are our Road safety Officers. On Thursday they held an assembly for Key Stage 2 about how wearing a bicycle helmet could save your life. They showed a video and talked to their audience about the importance of protecting your head against injury. The 'egg helmet' experiment at the end showed everyone just what a difference it could make.

Class 2 visit Norwich Castle

Class 2 visited Norwich Castle this week. They got to spend some time looking at the collection of objects from ancient Egypt. They also enjoyed trying Roman and Saxon clothes for size. Putting a toga on is a lot trickier than it looks. We also learnt about the harsh treatment dished out to prisoners in the past in a guided tour of the dungeons. Stomach churning stuff. Once again the attitude and behaviour of the children did the school proud. Well done everyone.

Christmas Play

Congratulations to everybody for such a spectacular Christmas production!

Our First Concert

Children in Year 2 have been having recorder lessons. Many thanks to Mrs Grogan has come in every Tuesday afternoon to teach our budding instrumentalists. Today was there first concert. They gave us all a run through the pieces they have been practising.

Years 5 and 6 had the most wonderful time in Derbyshire.

The walk

In class 3 we went on a wonderful walk.

We started with Lose Hill, which

was 1,563ft. When we got half

way up we felt exhausted, but thanks

to the help and encouragement of our teachers and guide we reached the top and had a mars bar. We were so proud of ourselves achieving our goal. By Harry

CHATSWORTH FARM

One of our favourite parts at Chatsworth farm was

the tunnel leading to the amasing play park.

There was Archemedies Screw, which we controlled

to pull the water out of the stream.

After a really good team effort, we managed to

make a small moat/river. It was a fantastic start to the trip.

There were also many LOVELY animals.

our favourites were the guineapigs (we all got to hold

one). One was very naughty and ran away, but thank-

Derbyshire

Just to update you, Mrs Porter-Hardy has been in touch to say everyone is having a fantastic time. The weather is lovely. All the children have been fantastic. They survived a Peak District trek and have been rock climbing. The aim is to wear them out as much as possible; and so far it is having the desired effect...on Mrs Hunt!

Derbyshire Visit

Class 3 have safely arrived in Derbyshire and are having a great time. They enjoyed a visit to Chatsworth House yesterday.

School Play

Only a few days to go before our big Summer event 'Scheherazade'. This years event will be taking part on Tuesday 13th July at Easton Farm Park. The children have been practicing very hard and it promises to be another fantastic event from the children of Easton School.

Sports Week

The children of our school received a taster session last week in golf and yoga.
We had an instructor in from Ufford Park who was able to show every student how to hit a golf ball in the correct manner. We had many promising student's that could go on further with this sport.
Jo King, who has been running a yoga class this term at the school, came in and everyone got a chance to experience some yoga. Many of the student's said how relaxed they felt after leaving the session.

Bikeability

The children in class three have been involved in a 'Bikeability' course this past week. The course is a two day event and the children are taught everything from how to make sure their bike is safe to how they can be safe whilst on the road.
The children will get a certificate at the end of the course with a pass in level one or two.

Zoo visit

On Wednesday 30th June the whole school went on an enjoyable visit to Colchester Zoo. The children were able to walk around the zoo and learn about many interesting animals. Some of the student's had never been to a zoo before so this was a real experience for them.
While at the zoo each class had an education talk by a member of the zoo staff. Class one heard about mammals, class two learnt about why animals need to have camouflage and class three learnt about African animals.
At the end of the visit one student said it had been one of the best days ever.

Sports Evening

Our annual sports evening was a great success again this year. The overall winners were the England team with Argentina close behind. There were many events this year from the track 'egg and spoon' to 'standing long jump' in the field events.
The ESA put on a splendid BBQ and raffle which helped raise money towards the school.

Welcome to our Sports Evening

Welcome to our sports day 2010


You may recall the changes we made to the sports day format last year which proved very successful. As the changes were in line with government initiatives, as well as our own beliefs, we have decided to follow the same format this year, incorporating a more competitive edge into sporting activities, whilst retaining a team spirit. We will also be incorporating a number of athletics skills that the children learn about in their P.E. lessons

Below is a brief outline of how the event will run:

All the children have been organised into 7 teams with each team having representatives in from each class

The team were asked to work together to pick two people from each class to represent the team in each event. All children had to take part in a minimum of 4 events.

There are 4 track and 4 field events. In each event there will be two rounds for each class. Children will compete against other children from their class on behalf of their team. Points will be scored for 1st -3rd places although all children will get one point for their team for taking part in each event. (Class 1 won’t be taking part in the shot or javelin events)

The bell will ring at the end of each round and a new field / track event will be set up. At any one time there will only be 7 runners and 1 child doing a ‘field’ activity. Scores will be updated at the end of every round if we can!

We hope to include relay races, an under 5s race and a parent egg and spoon race at the end – so start warming up!

We have put chairs out for parents in what we thought was the best place.

Unfortunately we haven’t been able to solve the fact that the children need to be slightly away from the events so that we can get them in the right place at the right time. This means that we need you to cheer and support the children as much as you can when they are taking part.

Drinks and a barbeque are available and the school council will be selling ice creams for 50p later on in the evening. I do hope you are able to support us and that you enjoy the event.

Sex Education

Dear Parents

As part of the curriculum we will be teaching sex education later in this term to all pupils in years 5 and 6. We will be using a resource produced by Channel 4 entitled ‘living and growing.’ There are three main units to this programme and the DVD is available for you to view at home prior to the lessons commencing should you wish to know exactly what is being taught.

All parents have the right to withdraw their pupils from these sessions should they wish to. Any parents wishing to do so should inform the school in writing.

During lessons pupils are told to keep all discussions to within the lesson or to discuss it with parents at home should they wish to. The children will be informed that during the lessons we will endeavour to answer most of their questions, however there may be some questions that we feel are more sensitive and the child will be asked to take that to their parents.

The DVD is available from the office; we ask that you return it the next day so that anyone who wishes to see it is able to do so.

The first session on sex education will be delivered to Years 5 and 6 by the School Nurse on Thursday this week between 2pm – 3pm.

The school nurse will be available to all parents at school from 3pm onwards on Thursday afternoon 24th June to discuss any issues with her. An appointment is not necessary as this will be run as a ‘drop in session’.

Music Tuition

MUSIC TUITION FROM SEPTEMBER 2010

Dear Parents

Pupils who will be in years three and four in September will have the opportunity to learn to play the flute for the whole of the academic year which will be funded by the school.

These pupils will also have the opportunity to learn the violin but there will be a charge for these additional sessions. Numbers will be limited as priority will be given to those pupils who will then be in years 5 and 6 who are currently having lessons. The lessons will be 20 minutes long and will take place weekly. A whole term of lessons will cost £26.00. Parents will need to commit for one term but all musical instruments will be loaned free of charge as part of this agreement for as long as they decide to take lessons.

For those pupils currently in years 4 and 5 who wish to continue, or take up music tuition in September, please complete the form below.

This is a great opportunity and we hope your child can take part. Places will be confirmed at the end of this term and payment will be due the first week back in September.

A reminder to all current year 6 pupils – please ensure you have your instrument in school by to be returned to County.
