Whole School walk
After a filling and delicious Christams dinner the whole school went on a walk around the village. If only it had been snowing.......
Christmas Production
All the children were involved in the wonderful performance of 'Will Santa get shot down?' This heartwarming play was based on the true story of two families in London in World War II and is centred on the true meaning of Christmas. The children performed wonderfully under the direction of our dedicated teachers. There were solo performances on the violin as well as with singing and dancing. We hope to put a short film of a part of our performance on the blog after Christmas.

"Changing rooms at Easton School"
Our activity room is the lastest room that we are about to restructure and improve.
We have great plans for this room which include a kitchen area with a full size oven and work surfaces, a painting/craft area, soft cushions to sit and read quietly on and a table for group work.
We plan to post pictures regually and keep you updated on the progress of this fabulous project, so watch this space for all the latest pictures and updates.

New Playhouse in class 1
Our eagerly awaited surprise in class 1 has arrived and the children are thrilled. Our two story 'super dooper' play house has enabled our children to carry out their role play to the full.
Since the children arrived on Monday morning there has been so much excitement and anticipation while they wait for their turn to play within the house.
The other two classes haven't been forgotten as they will also get an opportunity to explore the new structure in class 1.
When the children were asked what they thought about the house they said" it was brilliant"
Many of the children said they also liked pretending the house was something else like a hospital or fire station.
Mrs Payne said "since the writing table had been allocated at the top of the house it has never had so much use"
We hope all existing children and future children to Easton School will get many hours of fun in this very exciting space.

The football match
On Monday 13th October class 3 went for a football match. We played against Dennington. The whole team did a fantastic performance, we had an fantastic time even though we lost. Ben and Alex scored, Ben scored twice and Alex scored once. Everyone at the football match had a go, it was near the end when Thomas hurt his foot.
Even though we lost we all had a fantastic time.

EDF Energy Talk
On Thursday 16th October class 3 had a talk about EDF energy and all the dangers that electricity has. They also talked about what cables EDF energy use under the ground and on top of the electric poles. The two men brought in helmets for us to try on to show us how these are used to protect their heads.
We all thought this was a very interesting and educational talk.

Sewing Club
We have now been running our sewing club for three weeks and what a great success it has proved to be. The children have all had a choice of what they would like to do from a' Christmas stocking' to a 'place mat'. When ask what she liked about the club, Laura said "It's really good and I like making things". Hopefully this club will go from strength to strength.

Sponsored fun run
On October 10th we hope to hold our annual sponsored fun run. Watch this space to see how well the children got on!
Slippers
Class 3 have been busy making slippers for themselves or a relative this month. The pupils have used a variety of methods and materials to come up with some highly creative slippers. Careful consideration had to be given to comfort, safety and design when making the slippers. The children will be weraing them in school during the coming week.
Harvest time
Harvest time is upon us and this year we were able to take our first harvest from the school garden. We have gathered runner beans, tomatoes, chard, broad beans and also apples and blackberries from other places in the school grounds.
The garden now has fully working gutteridge and waterbutts and phase two of the development is about to get underway. We hope to as add another planting bed and places bark chipping in all the walkways as well as install efficient composting systems.

Last week all of class 3 went to the Peak Centre in Derbyshire. The whole week was amazing with every child in the class walking the hills and rock climbing. Here are some photographs of our fantastic week away.
These children are playing in the cascade fountain at Chatsworth house and in the second photograph they are standing at the top of Mam Tor.

Kathy Henderson has wrote a number of children's books and the children were able to talk to her about the books and her life as an author. She also did a talk about the first ever book and showed children stones that she had borrowed from teh British Museum with teh first writing carved on them. Pictures from the event were in The East Anglian newspaper on Saturday 19th July.

A Greener School
Focus week - caring for the environment
This week has been our focus week looking at how the school and all the people who use it can be 'greener.'
Class 1 have been focusing on wildlife and gardens and have been tending their vegetables as well as focusing on the abundant wildlife in our school grounds and how we can take care of it. They also made mini gardens (see photo above)
Class 2 have been looking at the three 'R's' Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. They have managed to get some free recycling bins for all the classrooms and have produced leaflets to help their parents become recyclers.
Class 3 have investigated the idea of carbon footprints and have each made a pledge to try and reduce theirs for the week. Little things count and the pledges range from cutting the hours of TV they watch to switching off lights when they leave a room.
A clothing bank has been permanently installed in the school car park and the community have been invited to use it whenever they need to. Our school garden is being developed at a much quicker rate than we could have hoped for thanks to willing and very able parents.
We also had a visit from the county waste service and they got involved in making paper with the children as well teaching them about composting and doing some weaving work using old bicycle wheels!
As a school we did an audit of what we can do to be as green as possible then we gave ourselves a traffic light score. There were a lot of green and amber but a few on red. This will give us our targets as a whole school and will ensure that the focus on caring for our environment doesn't disappear.

Bowling
Bowling at the Village Bowling Green
Years 5 and 6 have enjoyed lawn bowls at the village bowls club. A grant gained from the High Sheriffs award, through the Suffolk Foundation enabled the school to buy some junior woods for the children to use. Members of the bowls club have been tutoring the children and next week we hope to have the score boards out for a mini tournament.
Sports day 2008
Sports Day
All our children took part in, and thoroughly enjoyed our school sports evening. We had a fantastic turn out of mums, dads, friends and grandparents to watch the games. The summer evening was complimented by a barbeque and liquid refreshments very kindly set up by the Easton School Association (ESA)
